Hoping to catch the two women off guard, I quickly interjected, “Someone was trying to get into my cabin this morning.”

“Really?” Lisa asked, a tad too excitedly.

Ignoring her, I pressed, “Was it one of you?”

Helga immediately shook her head.

“None of the staff would have bothered you in your abode,” Rosario said formally.

“Someone was trying to get in,” I stressed. “My Doberman pinscher scared them away.”

“That must have been scary,” Lisa guessed.

“It was,” I admitted. As I spoke, I heard footsteps coming up behind me. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw that Gino was surveying the room.

“I guess I got the time wrong,” he murmured.

“We’re running late, good man,” Levi boomed. “We’re taking advantage of the chance to get to know your Maggie.”

“Well, I’m going to steal my Maggie for a minute, if that’s okay,” Gino said, grabbing my hand and starting to lead me out of the room.

“We should be done here in about ten minutes,” Rosario called after him. “There’s no need to be afraid of a massage.”

Gino shook his head and continued leading me outside.

Piss, who’d wisely opted to not go into the spa, glanced up at us, surprised. “That was quick.”

I breathed in the fresh air, glad to be free from the overwhelming scent of lavender. A breeze was blowing and the sky had clouded over.

“Look what you have reduced me to,” Gino complained good-naturedly. “They think I’m so claustrophobic that I’m afraid of getting a massage.”

“Haphephobia,” God said importantly.

“What?” I asked.

“Haphephobia,” God explained. “The irrational fear of being touched.”

I quickly relayed the information to Gino.

“But I’m not afraid of being touched,” Gino reminded me, pitching his voice lower. “I like being touched very much.”

Remembering how we’d touched each other the night before, I felt my heartbeat speed up. “So do I,” I said softly.

He grinned and leaned toward me. His lips had just touched mine when we were interrupted.

“Have you seen my brother?” a small voice demanded to know. Jumping apart, we looked down at the little girl from the family of six.

“Have you seen my brother?” she asked again. “We’re playing hide and seek, and I can’t find him.”

“No,” Gino told her. “We haven’t seen him.”

“Well, when you do, let me know,” she said with self-importance, and then ran away into the woods.

Gino shook his head. “I like kids, but…”

“I was just being told that the former occupants of our cabin, Amelia and Brad Helkamp,” I said, repeating their names just so that I wouldn’t forget it myself, “weren’t fans of the family, either.”

“Who could blame them?” Gino cocked his head to the side. “And did you make any progress on that little part of your investigation?”

I shook my head. “Not much. They didn’t show for breakfast. They missed their appointment for their massage, and then it was discovered that they were missing despite the fact that all their stuff is still here.”

“And what about with the llama?” Gino asked. “Did you learn anything useful from him?”

I studied his handsome face for a long moment, trying to decide whether he really wanted to know or if he was making fun of me.
